PATH (People Assisting The Homeless) is seeking candidates with experience in workforce development and a passion for helping others improve their quality of life to join our San Jose BHC Program as an Employment Specialist. This position welcomes and encourages candidates with lived experience related to homelessness to apply.

WHAT WE DO
Since its foundation in 1984, PATH has pioneered bold and effective approaches to assist people experiencing homelessness. PATH operates services throughout California, connecting our clients to a comprehensive continuum of homelessness prevention, street outreach, employment preparation and placement assistance, individualized case management, supportive services, interim housing, and permanent supportive housing. 

San Jose’s Bridge Housing Community (BHC) provides bridge housing to families who are experiencing homelessness and offers a range of onsite supportive services. These services assist each household in transitioning into a safe, stable, and permanent home.

WHAT IS AN EMPLOYMENT SPECIALIST?
As part of the BHC team, the Employment Specialist supports families in improving their quality of life and their journey to stable, permanent housing by developing and connecting them with sustainable employment opportunities. Responsibilities of the Employment Specialist include:
  • Cultivating and maintaining relationships with prospective employers to identify living-wage job opportunities for BHC residents
  • Connecting with outside resources such as the EDD, America’s Job Centers, DOR, DPSS, vocational training schools, and community based organizations to ensure clients have access to available services
  • Collaborating with residents to develop Individualized Employment Plans
  • Proving employment-related case management services and supports such as, but not limited to:
    • Skills, employability, and work readiness assessments
    • Employment linkage
    • Procurement of benefits
    • Community integration
    • Service Coordination
    • Job readiness skills trainings such as resume development, interview skills, and job search techniques
    • Career counseling and job coaching
  • Working one-on-one with residents on job retention
  • Maintaining complete records of services and providing timely updates to the case management staff
  • Tracking retention data, participant updates, service requests, program expenses, program goals, and providing weekly reports to program management

WHAT YOU BRING
We’re looking for candidates that:
  • Have lived experience with homelessness or issues related to homelessness
  • Have previous experience in homeless programs or working with veterans
  • Demonstrate the ability to interact and collaborate effectively with a diverse range of individuals including clients, other staff members, and community members
  • Maintain and execute confidential information according to HIPAA and all other applicable standards
  • Possess a high level of tolerance and understanding for individuals with urgent and multiple case management and health needs
  • Work just as well independently as they do on a team
  • Exercise mature judgement, and are highly motivated, self-starting and proactive
  • Are excellent at communicating, whether in writing or verbally
  • Have a strong sense of prioritization and can coordinate multiple demands in a high-pressure environment

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS
For this role the Employment Specialist must:
  • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field OR have at least 3 years of relevant experience
  • Have at least 2 years of cumulative experience working in workforce development
  • Demonstrate the ability to use computers and technology effectively as a work tool including proficiency with Microsoft Office software and database systems
  • Be able and willing to work flexible hours which may include evenings or weekends
  • Have employment eligibility verification
  • Have or be able and willing to obtain CPR/First Aid training
  • Provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination
  • Have reliable transportation and:
    • A valid driver’s license
    • Proof of insurance and ownership for personal vehicles used during work duties
    • The ability to qualify for PATH insurance coverage
  • Successfully complete the following as a condition of hire:
    • Tuberculosis Test
    • Background Screening
    • Drug Test

COVID-19 VACCINATION
Effective 11/01/2021 PATH will require all employees to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. All prospective hires will be expected to provide proof of full vaccination as part of the pre-employment credentialing process.
