PATH (People Assisting The Homeless) is seeking a experienced social services leader to join our San Jose team as the Director of Programs.  This position requires supervisory, Medi-Cal billing, and a background working with vulnerable populations, and gives preference to candidates holding LCSW credentials.

Since its foundation in 1984, PATH has pioneered bold and effective approaches to assist people experiencing homelessness. PATH operates services throughout California, connecting our clients to a comprehensive continuum of homelessness prevention, street outreach, employment preparation and placement assistance, individualized case management, supportive services, interim housing, and permanent supportive housing. 
Under the Supervision of the Regional Director, the Director of Programs oversees all of San Jose’s programs which currently include Outreach, Clinical Outreach, Employment Services, Rapid Rehousing, Housing Navigation, and Permanent supportive housing. Responsibilities of the Director of Programs include:
  • Administration
    • Administering and overseeing programs and staff
    • Ensuring the integration of evidence-based practices, standards of excellence and PATH’s values into daily work and programming
    • Collaborating with internal departments to implement and oversee all aspects facilities, personnel and programs
    • Performing program development and expansion activities in line with PATH’s mission and the needs of the community
  • Program Management
    • Providing direct oversight to program managers and guidance to all Santa Barbara staff
    • Analyzing program data to identify tends and make projections or recommendations for programs
    • Identifying staff development needs and areas for professional growth to bring in appropriate training opportunities
    • Resolving grievances and troubleshooting incidents
    • Overseeing the implementation of program polices and procedures and ensuring polices, practices and procedures are in alignment with funding requirements and the goals and values of PATH
    • Overseeing and managing program and facility budgets and assisting the PATH Finance and Quality Assurance Department with modifying or adjusting budgets
  • Government & Community Engagement
    • Building strong relationships with funders and city, county, and government entities
    • Representing PATH to local agencies, community organizations, governments, and other external organizations to network, provide education, and develop and maintain effective and positive relationships
    • Collaborating with PATH leadership team to develop and implement strategies for communication pertaining to PATH’s presence in Santa Barbara
    • Serving as the main point of contact for all aspects related to Coordinated Entry in the region
  • Reports, Contracts & Compliance
    • Reviewing and authorizing all reports prior to submittal
    • Performing internal audits
    • Reviewing and explaining scope and services of contracts to staff
  • Fundraising
    • With support from the Regional Director, creating and managing effective local strategies and giving opportunities to raise funds
    • Collaborating with the Regional Director and Development Department to support events and fundraising efforts
    • Identifying and cultivating relationships with local funders, foundations, philanthropists, and the business community
    • Providing content for social media, such as success stories, on a weekly basis and as needed
We’re looking for candidates that:
  • Are Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW)
  • Demonstrate a passion for and commitment to our mission of ending homelessness
  • Have experience with grant writing, fundraising, and donor cultivation
  • Effectively manage data and reports
  • Demonstrate proficiency with technology including Microsoft Office
  • Project a professional demeanor and demonstrate a strong ability to represent the interests of the agency
  • Work just as well independently as they do on a team
  • Exercise mature judgement, are highly motivated, self-starting and proactive and demonstrate ability to develop creative solutions
  • Are excellent at communicating, whether in writing or verbally, and display strong interpersonal skills across all demographics
  • Have a strong sense of prioritization and can coordinate multiple demands in a high-pressure environment
For this role the Director of Programs must:
  • Have at least 5 years of supervisory experience managing programs and staff and demonstrating growth in leadership and management responsibilities
  • Have Medi-Cal billing experience
  • Have experience working with vulnerable populations
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage multiple programs and contracts
  • Have experience and proven success leading large scale program and systems change
  • Be able and willing to work flexible hours which may include evenings or weekends
  • Have employment eligibility verification
  • Have or be able and willing to obtain CPR/First Aid training
  • Have reliable transportation and:
    • A valid driver’s license
    • Proof of insurance and ownership for personal vehicles used during work duties
    • The ability to qualify for PATH insurance coverage
  • Successfully complete the following as a condition of hire:
    • Tuberculosis Test
    • Background Screening
    • Drug Test
