The Director of Community Affairs will be responsible for overseeing all community partnerships and advocacy activities for PATH San Jose under the direction of the Regional Director. This role will be responsible for building relationships with constituents throughout our Silicon Valley region, helping to connect the community to PATH programs and the people we serve.
Community engagement is central to all of PATH’s activities in the Silicon Valley. PATH is dedicated to increasing affordability and building supportive housing in the region, while helping individuals experiencing homelessness make it back home. Building community will for supportive housing is crucial in the Silicon Valley, and PATH works to build will and trust with neighbors by educating and engaging them in the everyday activities of our work on the ground: homeless street outreach, rapid rehousing etc.
This role will be responsible for achieving specific revenue goals; engaging new groups, corporations, and community partners; implementing new strategies to increase revenue, advocating for and identifying important local, state, and federal policy items; and increasing community and political support for PATH San Jose. This position ensures long-term sustainability and expansion of PATH’s development initiatives, community engagement activities, and advocacy opportunities. This role will also oversee all San Jose volunteer programs including our Welcome Home Program, PATH Cooks and Hygiene Kits.

- Community Engagement Lead – Support the Regional Director of San Jose in conducting high-level community outreach to educate stakeholders, raise funds, and create strategic partnerships. Manage VIP relationships, oversee all community engagement projects and events, and provide oversight in engaging potential volunteers and assisting with each volunteer program.
- Community Advocacy Lead - Lead organization-wide advocacy strategy by managing all high-level political relationships, cultivating contacts with elected officials, and coordinating opportunities for learning and engagement. Provide recommendations to senior management regarding legislative support and policy positions and develop strategic approaches to proposed and implemented policies/legislation.
- Advisory Board Lead – In partnership with the Regional Director, manage Advisory Board strategy, membership, and activation. Coordinate meetings, events, and fundraising opportunities.
- Fundraising – Support the Regional Director and Development Department in promoting ongoing and annual fundraising campaigns. Establish long-term relationships with private sector influencers and supporters in the community to build new partnerships and funding opportunities. Support the transition of volunteers into organizational donors.
- Volunteer Program Management and Evaluation – Collect and manage feedback from all parties involved in volunteer activities, including volunteers, staff, and community members through written reports, testimonials, and verbal comments. Share feedback with site staff to acknowledge strengths, successes and to make improvements for future volunteer activities. This will include frequent coordination with Program leadership to ensure volunteer activities are designed to meet participants’ needs.
- Volunteer Recruitment and Training – Oversee recruitment, retention and assignment of PATH volunteers. Present PATH’s mission to local corporate, faith, community, and political organizations to obtain volunteers for ongoing volunteer events. Co-facilitate and support training of all volunteers.
- Supportive Housing- Community Engagement: Assist both the Regional Director and the PATH Ventures team in setting up community meetings regarding new supportive housing developments. Build relationships with concerned neighbors and advocates alike to help further PATH’s mission of increasing affordable housing stock in the Silicon Valley.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of DonorPerfect or similar donor management software preferred.
- Experience in nonprofit development, community outreach and/or volunteer management preferred.
- Manage multiple tasks and timelines simultaneously.
- Ability to integrate a complex organization with a highly creative and innovative environment.

The employee may be in contact with individuals and families in crisis who may be ill, using alcohol and drugs, and who may not be attentive to basic personal hygiene, health and safety practices. The employee may experience a number of unpleasant sensory demands associated with the client’s use of alcohol and drugs, and lack of personal hygiene. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate in an office setting. Sometimes work may become stressful when working under pressure.
